In the dark ages of the Middle Ages, when darkness enveloped much of Europe, Franciscan monasteries emerged as beacons of light, both literally and metaphorically. Founded by St. Francis of Assisi in the early 13th century, the Order of Friars Minor embraced simplicity and poverty as guiding principles. This philosophy was also reflected in the lighting of their convents, creating a unique atmosphere that combined practicality with spirituality.
Beeswax candles were the main source of artificial light in Franciscan convents. Their golden, flickering glow not only provided the necessary illumination but also symbolized the divine presence. The friars produced these candles as part of their daily work, transforming a practical task into an act of devotion.
Light, in these spaces, was not only functional but took on a central role in the liturgy, symbolizing the presence of God and spiritual enlightenment.
The former convent of San Francesco in Pordenone provided MONTEFELTRO LUCE with an opportunity to share the experience of SICAM Pordenone, where the products presented represent innovation and timeless design. A unique perspective on the relationship between man and lighting, in an age when artificial light permeates every aspect of our lives.
